Adhesive film performs best on a clean, dry, smooth and stable substrate. Contamination left beneath the film can remain visible or weaken the final bond.

• Wash thoroughly. Remove road film, dirt, wax, polish and loose contamination using a suitable automotive cleaner.
• Degrease the final surface. Use a manufacturer-approved surface cleaner or an appropriate isopropyl alcohol solution with clean, lint-free towels.
• Clean edges and hidden areas. Pay special attention to door edges, seams, handles, emblems, moldings, wheel openings and areas where film will be tucked or returned.
• Remove cleaning residue. Do not leave soap, solvent, moisture or towel lint behind. Allow the surface to dry completely.
• Inspect the substrate. Look for loose paint, rust, chips, dents, silicone, rough repairs, failing clear coat or other conditions that may show through or reduce adhesion.
• Control dust and static. Work in a clean installation area and wipe the surface immediately before application when necessary.
• Confirm temperature conditions. Condition the film, surface and work area within the selected manufacturer’s recommended application range.

Correct sizing and temporary positioning reduce unnecessary stretching and help maintain a consistent finish across the completed surface.

• Measure every section carefully. Include enough material for positioning, trimming, returns and normal installation handling.
• Keep the film slightly oversized. Final trimming is safer than trying to stretch material that was cut too short.
• Confirm material direction. Keep adjacent sections oriented consistently, especially with satin, metallic, pearlescent, brushed or other directional finishes.
• Temporarily position the piece. Use clean wrap magnets or masking tape to hold the film while checking coverage and working allowance.
• Plan the installation sequence. Decide which areas should be completed first so finished edges are protected and the film remains manageable.
• Minimize seams. Use the available roll width to cover complete sections whenever practical. Where a seam is unavoidable, place it in a low-stress, visually suitable area.
• Keep identifying information. Save the custom color order, swatch, film and finish details until the entire project is complete.

• Create a controlled anchor. Secure one area of the material so it remains correctly positioned while the liner is released.
• Expose only manageable adhesive. Peel the liner gradually rather than removing it all at once.
• Use a clean felt-edged squeegee. Apply firm, overlapping strokes from the established area toward the open edge so air can escape.
• Keep the material supported. Do not allow the adhesive side to fold onto itself, drag on the floor or contact contaminated surfaces.
• Work in small sections. Pause frequently to inspect the color, surface finish, tension and position.
• Lift and reposition when necessary. Do not force wrinkles flat with excessive pressure. Release the affected area and reapply it with lower tension.
• Use dry application unless specifically permitted otherwise. Many vehicle wrap films and air-release adhesive systems are intended for dry installation. Follow the exact technical instructions for the selected material.

• Use a heat gun with controlled airflow. Warm a broad area gradually rather than concentrating heat in one small location.
• Monitor the surface temperature. Use an infrared thermometer and stay within the selected film and finish manufacturer’s working limits.
• Stretch only as much as necessary. Excessive stretching can reduce opacity, alter gloss, shift the perceived color or weaken edge stability.
• Distribute tension across a wider area. Lift and relax the film before conforming it around complex curves or into channels.
• Feed material into recesses. Do not bridge a deep channel and then force the film downward under heavy tension.
• Protect the custom finish. Overheating can cause surface distortion, gloss change, texture change, whitening, edge curl or separation within the material system.
• Allow the material to cool before judging the result. The film may relax as it returns toward room temperature.

• Use a sharp blade. A fresh blade produces a cleaner edge and requires less pressure than a dull blade.
• Cut with very light pressure. Avoid scoring paint, glass, trim, rubber or other surfaces beneath the film.
• Use knifeless tape where appropriate. It provides controlled cut lines without placing a blade directly against the substrate.
• Leave enough film for secure returns. Do not trim so close that the edge lacks adequate contact area.
• Keep returns relaxed. Remove excess tension before wrapping around an edge or into a seam.
• Finish corners carefully. Reduce unnecessary layers and bulk while preserving enough material to maintain coverage.
• Press every finished edge. Use firm squeegee pressure and verify that the edge is clean, dry and fully bonded.

Post-heating helps reduce the material’s tendency to return toward its original shape in areas that were stretched or formed. The correct temperature depends on the exact film and finish system.

• Follow the exact manufacturer temperature. Do not apply one general post-heating temperature to every film or overlaminate.
• Use an infrared thermometer. Confirm the actual film temperature rather than estimating by touch or heat-gun setting.
• Post-heat stretched areas. Pay particular attention to channels, recesses, compound curves, corners and other high-tension zones.
• Move the heat source continuously. Warm the required area evenly and avoid changing the custom color or finish through overheating.
• Re-squeegee when appropriate. Apply firm pressure to edges and formed areas according to the material instructions.
• Use compatible edge protection only where specified. Edge-seal tape or sealer may be appropriate in selected vulnerable areas when approved for the material.
• Inspect again after cooling. Check for lifting, shrink-back or tension once the film has returned toward room temperature.

• Inspect color consistency. Review adjacent sections under even lighting and confirm that directional material was installed consistently.
• Check for bubbles and wrinkles. Use the film’s air-release system where available. Treat any remaining small bubble using an approved air-release tool.
• Inspect every edge and high-stress area. Check corners, door openings, seams, returns, recesses and stretched areas closely.
• Look for finish damage. Confirm that the surface is free of scratches, pressure marks, overheating, gloss changes and contamination.
• Clean only with a compatible product. Remove fingerprints and installation residue without using aggressive solvents or abrasive cloths.
• Allow the adhesive to build. Avoid washing or exposing the wrap to harsh weather for at least 24–48 hours, or longer when required by the manufacturer.
• Avoid early pressure washing. Keep high-pressure water away from the new installation for at least 72 hours and follow the material’s long-term care instructions.

1. Plan the final cut line. Position the tape exactly where the custom color film should finish.
2. Leave accessible pull tabs. Extend the tape beyond both ends of the film so the filament can be started cleanly.
3. Apply the film over the tape. Squeegee the vinyl while keeping the tape stable underneath.
4. Start the filament correctly. Follow the tape manufacturer’s method for separating and beginning the cut.
5. Pull with a controlled motion. Maintain the recommended angle and speed while the filament cuts through the film.
6. Remove the tape carrier. Lift away the remaining tape without disturbing the newly cut edge.
7. Finish the edge. Apply firm squeegee pressure and confirm complete adhesion.
