Style and protection in one film

A clean gray colour change backed by the thicker protection of polyurethane PPF

3M PWF-G61 Gloss Nardo Gray blends the personalization of a colour-change wrap with the protective qualities of paint protection film. Its solid gray appearance creates a modern, performance-inspired finish while the polyurethane construction helps shield painted surfaces from common road and environmental hazards.

At approximately 8 mil thick, the film is substantially thicker than a standard vinyl wrap. This added thickness provides greater resistance against rock chips, scratches, stains and environmental damage while maintaining the flexibility required for vehicle wrapping.

After installation, removing the protective cap sheet reveals the smooth gloss surface. Minor scratches and swirl marks can diminish with the application of heat through the film's self-healing technology.

Colour personality

Modern, understated and performance-focused, with a neutral gray body colour and a polished gloss finish.

Nardo Gray pairs naturally with gloss black roofs, carbon fibre, black wheels, dark trim and red brake details. It can also support clean monochrome styling or stronger contrast with white, blue, orange, yellow or neon accents.

Protection Wrap Film technology

Designed to deliver colour personalization, installation control and long-lasting surface protection

PWF-G61 combines a coloured polyurethane face film with acrylic-based adhesive and air-egress technology. The film is designed for professional dry installation and can be used for complete colour changes, partial wraps, racing stripes and selected accent areas.

01

Colour change and protection

Delivers the visual transformation of a coloured wrap while adding a protective polyurethane layer over compatible painted surfaces.

02

Self-healing surface

Minor scratches and swirl marks can diminish with heat, helping the gloss finish maintain a cleaner appearance.

03

Mirror-like gloss finish

Once the protective cap sheet is removed, the film reveals a smooth, reflective surface designed to enhance the Nardo Gray colour.

04

3M Controltac technology

Supports sliding and repositioning during installation, helping the installer align the film before applying final pressure.

05

3M Comply air release

Air-release channels help trapped air flow toward the film edge for a smoother and more controlled dry application.

06

Thicker polyurethane construction

The approximately 8 mil film is described as 70% thicker than standard vinyl wraps, providing increased resilience and protection.

Recommended applications

Create a complete Nardo Gray transformation or protect selected panels with coordinated accents

Full Vehicle Wraps Complete Gloss Nardo Gray colour changes for compatible cars, trucks, vans and other professionally prepared vehicles.
Hoods, Roofs & Trunks Large accent panels that benefit from coordinated colour styling and additional protective film thickness.
Stripes, Emblems & Trim Racing stripes, exterior trim, emblems and selected design accents requiring a uniform gray finish.
Specialty Applications Motorcycle parts, boats, jet skis, appliances, furniture and other compatible smooth applications.

Professional installation is strongly recommended.

PWF is thicker than traditional vinyl wrap and requires proper surface preparation, positioning, stretching, trimming and finishing. The film helps protect painted surfaces but cannot prevent every impact, dent, scratch or form of paint damage.

Installation considerations
  • Use professional installation techniques. The film's thickness and protective construction require careful handling, positioning and finishing.
  • Prepare the surface thoroughly. Install over clean, smooth, dry and properly prepared compatible surfaces.
  • Inspect the vehicle before installation. Existing scratches, dents, paint defects and surface texture may remain visible beneath the gloss film.
  • Use the dry application method. The product description specifies installation without fluid.
  • Use Controltac for positioning. Slide and reposition the material before applying full pressure.
  • Use Comply channels to release air. Work trapped air toward the nearest film edge during installation.
  • Use controlled stretch. Cold-stretch capability supports contours and recessed areas, but excessive tension should be avoided.
  • Use heat only where needed. Controlled heat may assist with forming, finishing and self-healing minor surface marks.
  • Protect the gloss surface. Keep the protective cap sheet in place during suitable installation steps and remove it for the final finish.
  • Use clean tools and gloves. Dust, fingerprints and contamination can become visible on the gloss Nardo Gray surface.
  • Use knifeless tape where appropriate. 3M Knifeless Precision Tape can support clean cuts without cutting directly on the vehicle.
  • Complete a final inspection. Check edges, seams, contours and recessed areas before returning the vehicle to service.
Care, self-healing and removal
  • Keep the surface clean. Regular cleaning helps preserve the gloss finish and reduces the buildup of environmental contaminants.
  • Use gentle automotive cleaning methods. Avoid harsh abrasives, aggressive brushes and products that may damage or dull the surface.
  • Remove contamination promptly. Clean dirt, stains, bird droppings, fuel and environmental residue before they remain on the surface for extended periods.
  • Self-healing applies to minor surface marks. Heat can help diminish light scratches and swirl marks.
  • Deep damage will not self-heal. Cuts, punctures, tears, gouges and heavy impact damage may require film replacement.
  • Use controlled heat only. Excessive heat may damage the film or underlying surface.
  • Inspect high-impact areas regularly. Check hoods, lower panels, edges and other frequently exposed sections for damage or lifting.
  • Professional removal is recommended. The film is designed for long-term use but may be removed by an experienced installer.
  • Underlying paint condition matters. Paint quality, previous repairs and surface preparation can affect installation and removal.
Protection and warranty notes
  • Up to 10 years of durability: The supplied product description identifies the film as suitable for long-term use.
  • 10-year warranty: Warranty coverage is subject to the applicable manufacturer terms and conditions.
  • The film helps protect against rock chips, scratches, stains and environmental damage.
  • Protection Wrap Film cannot prevent every chip, scratch, puncture, dent or impact.
  • Self-healing technology is intended for minor scratches and swirl marks, not structural or deep film damage.
  • Final appearance and performance depend on preparation, installation quality, vehicle condition, exposure and care.
  • Professional removal may help reduce the risk of damage to the underlying paint.

Review the actual Nardo Gray colour before ordering project material

Gray tones and gloss levels can appear different on a screen than they do on a vehicle. Review an available physical sample under sunlight, shade and indoor lighting before selecting material for a complete vehicle or colour-sensitive project.

Application Guide

Colored Paint Protection Film (PPF / PWF) Application Guide

1. Prepare the Surface

  • Clean Thoroughly: Wash the surface with an automotive-grade soap to remove dust, dirt, and grease. Avoid using wax or silicone-based cleaners, as they can interfere with adhesion.
  • Inspect for Imperfections: Check for scratches, dust, or paint defects. Address these issues before application, as imperfections may show through the film.

2. Measure and Cut the Film

  • Measure Carefully: Accurately measure the area to be wrapped, allowing extra material for trimming.
  • Pre-Cut if Necessary: For large or complex areas, consider pre-cut templates for easier installation and precise fitment.

3. Dry Application Process

Unlike traditional wet application PPF films, 3M PWF Colored PPF is installed using a dry application method. This requires precise handling and positioning.

Positioning the Film

  • Peel and Align: Remove the backing liner and gently position the film on the surface without applying pressure.
  • Use Wrap Magnets: These help hold the film in place while adjusting alignment, particularly for large panels.

Applying the Film

  • Start from the Center: Use a soft, non-marring squeegee to press the film onto the surface, starting from the middle and working outward.
  • Apply Even Pressure: Use firm, overlapping strokes to remove air pockets and ensure strong adhesion.
  • Use Heat for Curves: Apply gentle heat (90-120°F) using a heat gun or infrared heater to conform the film around complex curves and recesses.
  • Work in Sections: To maintain control, divide the application into manageable sections and complete one area at a time.

4. Removing Air Bubbles and Wrinkles

  • Squeegee Technique: Use a felt-edge or soft squeegee to press out bubbles while ensuring even pressure.
  • Air Release Tool: If small air bubbles remain, use an air release tool (or a fine pin) to carefully puncture the bubble and smooth it out.

5. Trimming and Finishing

  • Trim Excess Film: Use a precision utility knife or 3M Precision Line Knifeless Tape to achieve clean, accurate cuts. Avoid applying excessive pressure to prevent damage to the paint.

Edge Sealing

  • Use PPF Edge Seal Tape on areas prone to lifting, such as edges, corners, and high-impact zones.
  • Apply firm pressure along the edges to ensure proper adhesion.

6. Final Inspection and Curing

  • Inspect for Imperfections: Check for any lifting edges, bubbles, or wrinkles. Reheat and reapply pressure where needed.
  • Allow to Cure: Let the film fully cure for 24-48 hours before washing or exposing it to extreme conditions.

Handy Tools and Supplies for Dry Application PPF

1. Essential Tools

  • Soft Squeegee: Prevents scratches while ensuring proper adhesion.
  • Utility Knife: For precise trimming.
  • Wrap Magnets: Holds the film in place during positioning.

  • Edge Seal Tape: Prevents film lifting in high-stress areas.
  • Microfiber Towels: Keeps the film clean and free of fingerprints during installation.

3M Precision Line Knifeless Tape for Dry PPF Application

Why Use Knifeless Tape?

  • Safe Cutting: Prevents accidental damage to the vehicle’s paint.
  • Precise Edges: Achieves sharp, clean cuts on complex contours.
  • Seamless Integration: Ideal for multi-panel installations and custom designs.

How to Use It

  1. Apply the Tape: Position the knifeless tape along the desired cut line before laying down the PPF film.
  2. Install the Film: Apply the film as usual, ensuring it conforms to the tape’s placement.
  3. Pull the Filament: Once the film is secured, pull the embedded filament to cut the film cleanly along the tape’s path.
  4. Remove the Tape: Carefully peel off the knifeless tape, leaving a precise edge without the need for a blade.

By following these steps and using the recommended tools, you can achieve a clean, professional, and durable installation of 3M PWF Dry Application Colored PPF Film.
