Made possible through hybrid film technology

Add rich black colour, paint-like depth and protective polyurethane performance to high-impact vehicle accents

Avery Dennison neo Noir introduces a new approach to vehicle restyling by combining the visual impact of a colour-change wrap with the protective characteristics of paint protection film. The distinctive black pigment creates noticeable colour depth and a smooth high-gloss finish designed to resemble premium automotive paint.

The top-coated polyurethane and adhesive technology is designed for accent applications such as roofs, hoods and striping. Its three-dimensional conformability allows the film to follow curves and recessed areas while helping protect compatible factory paint from stone chips, road debris, scratches and common daily exposure.

Self-healing performance helps minor scratches diminish, while stain resistance and UV stability support the rich black appearance under intended use conditions. The result is a protective accent film that adds bold styling without relying on a conventional black vinyl wrap.

Colour personality

Deep, dramatic and highly polished, with richer black pigmentation and mirror-like reflections that create an OEM-inspired performance appearance.

neo Noir pairs naturally with bright body colours, metallic finishes, carbon fibre details, black wheels and tinted glass. Use it for contrasting roofs, hoods, stripes and carefully planned exterior accents.

neo hybrid film technology

Designed to merge gloss black restyling, three-dimensional conformability and protective performance

neo Noir combines a rich black top-coated polyurethane film with adhesive technology intended for professional accent applications and protection of compatible painted vehicle surfaces.

01

Rich black pigment

Distinctive pigmentation creates deeper black colour and greater visual depth than a conventional basic black accent film.

02

Paint-like high-gloss finish

The exceptionally smooth top-coated surface creates a premium automotive appearance with strong reflections and visual depth.

03

Hybrid wrap and PPF construction

Combines black colour restyling with polyurethane protection for a distinctive alternative to conventional vinyl wrap.

04

Three-dimensional conformability

Designed to follow curves and recessed areas across compatible roofs, hoods, stripes and exterior accent panels.

05

Self-healing performance

The protective surface helps absorb minor scratches and marks so the high-gloss finish can maintain a cleaner appearance.

06

Stain resistance and UV stability

Designed to resist common staining and ultraviolet exposure while supporting the rich Noir colour under intended conditions.

Recommended applications

Create bold gloss black accents while adding protection to selected high-impact painted surfaces

Contrast Roofs Create a deep gloss black roof treatment while adding protective polyurethane coverage over compatible paint.
Hood Transformations Add a rich black paint-like hood finish with protection against stone chips and road debris.
Stripes & Graphic Accents Racing stripes, centre sections and custom black accents with added protective film performance.
Selected Exterior Panels Carefully planned high-gloss black accents across compatible painted panels and trim-sized surfaces.

Professional installation is strongly recommended.

neo Noir is described as a hybrid accent film rather than a standard clear PPF or conventional vinyl wrap. Surface preparation, pattern planning, film orientation, stretching, solution control, squeegee pressure, trimming and edge finishing can affect colour depth, gloss and long-term performance. The film helps reduce damage from common hazards but cannot prevent every chip, scratch, puncture, dent or severe impact.

Professional installation considerations
  • Confirm the intended application. neo Noir is presented as a protective accent film for roofs, hoods, striping and selected exterior panels.
  • Inspect the paint before installation. Existing chips, scratches, repairs, texture and contamination may affect adhesion and final appearance.
  • Prepare the surface thoroughly. Remove wax, sealants, grease, dirt and other contamination using a process suitable for polyurethane paint protection film.
  • Review the physical black finish first. Colour depth and gloss may look different across paint colours, lighting conditions and panel shapes.
  • Plan the pattern carefully. Use accurate panel patterns or professional bulk-installation techniques for the selected accent.
  • Maintain consistent film orientation. Consistent orientation can help preserve uniform black depth and gloss across adjacent sections.
  • Use controlled stretching. The film is three-dimensionally conformable, but excessive tension may affect gloss, colour density, edges and long-term adhesion.
  • Use clean tools and gloves. Dust, fingerprints and tool contamination may be highly visible on the gloss black surface.
  • Protect the top-coated surface. Avoid dragging contaminated squeegees or sharp tools across the film during positioning and finishing.
  • Finish edges carefully. Inspect corners, recesses, seams and stretched areas for secure adhesion and consistent gloss.
  • Inspect from multiple angles. Review the completed film under direct light, shade and indoor lighting before returning the vehicle to service.
  • Follow current Avery Dennison instructions. Manufacturer documentation should govern preparation, installation, finishing and post-installation procedures.
Care and self-healing guidance
  • Use gentle automotive cleaning methods. Wash with suitable products and soft tools that will not scratch or dull the gloss black surface.
  • Remove contamination promptly. Clean insect residue, bird droppings, road tar, fuel and other contamination before prolonged exposure.
  • Avoid harsh abrasive compounds. Aggressive polishing may create haze, swirl marks or uneven gloss.
  • Use compatible detailing products. Confirm that cleaners, sealants and maintenance products are suitable for top-coated polyurethane film.
  • Self-healing applies to minor marks. Light scratches and surface marks may diminish through the film's self-healing performance.
  • Deep damage will not self-heal. Cuts, punctures, tears, gouges and heavy impact damage may require replacement of the affected section.
  • Use heat carefully. Follow current Avery Dennison guidance before applying heat for surface recovery or maintenance.
  • Inspect high-impact areas regularly. Check leading hood sections, roof edges, stripes and seams for damage or lifting.
  • Protect the black finish during service. Gloss black surfaces can display dust, fingerprints and washing marks more readily than lighter colours.
  • Use professional removal. Experienced removal is recommended, especially on repaired, refinished or condition-sensitive paint.
Protection, durability and product notes
  • Up to 5-year durability: The supplied product information describes durability of up to five years.
  • neo Noir is designed as a hybrid protective accent film with a rich black high-gloss finish.

  • Always review current Avery Dennison documentation before installation, care or removal.

Review the physical neo Noir black finish before ordering project material

Rich black pigments and high-gloss surfaces can appear different on a screen than they do on a vehicle. Review the physical film under sunlight, shade and indoor lighting before completing a roof, hood, stripe or other colour-sensitive accent.

Application Guide

Paint Protection Film (PPF) Application Guide

1. Prepare the Surface

  • Clean Thoroughly: Begin by washing the surface thoroughly. Use an automotive-grade soap to remove dirt, wax, and grease.
  • Degrease: Once cleaned, some installers may apply an isopropyl alcohol solution to remove any remaining oils or residues. Let the surface dry completely for proper adhesion.
  • Check for Imperfections: Inspect the area for any imperfections such as scratches, dust, or chips. Correct any issues as PPF will adhere best to smooth, clean surfaces.

2. Measure and Cut the Film

  • Measure Carefully: Measure the area to ensure the film covers the entire surface. Add a little extra for trimming later, especially on larger sections.
  • Pre-Cut the Film: For larger surfaces, consider pre-cut templates if available. This reduces the need for on-the-spot trimming and ensures a better fit.

3. Prepare Your Installation Solution

  • Slip Solution: Mix a few drops of baby shampoo or PPF installation gel with water in a spray bottle. This solution helps you position the film on the surface without it sticking immediately.
  • Tack Solution (Optional): For more adhesive power on tricky edges, mix a small amount of isopropyl alcohol with water in another spray bottle. The tack solution makes the film adhere more securely on curves or edges.

4. Apply the Film

  • Spray the Surface: Spray the surface liberally with the slip solution. This layer of solution will allow you to slide the film into position.
  • Peel and Position: Peel the backing off the film and lay it onto the wet surface. Adjust it to fit precisely, smoothing out large bubbles as you go.
  • Activate the Adhesive with Tack Solution: For difficult edges or corners, use the tack solution. Spray a little solution on the area and press down on the film to ensure a firm grip.

5. Remove Air Bubbles and Smooth the Film

  • Use a Squeegee: Starting from the center, use a squeegee to press out the solution and air bubbles, moving toward the edges. Wipe excess solution away as you go to avoid streaks or water spots.
  • Work in Sections: Divide the area into smaller sections for better control. Apply steady pressure to ensure the film is smooth and bubble-free.

6. Trim Excess Film

  • Careful Trimming: Use a sharp utility knife to trim the film along the edges. Be gentle to avoid cutting into the paint underneath.
  • Edge Sealing: Press down on all edges firmly. For a cleaner finish, use edge seal tape on areas exposed to high stress, such as door edges or bumpers.

7. Final Inspection and Curing

  • Inspect for Imperfections: If you see small air bubbles, gently lift the film in that section, spray a little slip solution, and squeegee it out.
  • Allow to Set: Allow the film to fully cure for 24-48 hours before washing or exposing it to extreme conditions.

Handy Tools and Supplies for PPF Application

1. Essential Tools

  • Squeegee: Essential for smoothing out the film and removing air bubbles. Opt for a soft squeegee to avoid scratching the film.
  • Utility Knife: A sharp knife is essential for precise trimming of excess film. Use a light touch to avoid cutting into the paint beneath.
  • Spray Bottles: Use separate bottles for slip solution and tack solution. Clearly label them to avoid confusion during application.

2. Cleaning and Preparation Supplies

  • Isopropyl Alcohol (70% or Higher): Removes oils and residues that may prevent the film from adhering properly.
  • Lint-Free Cloths or Microfiber Towels: For cleaning the surface without leaving fibers that could get trapped under the film.
  • PPF Installation Gel (Optional): Provides extra slip during application, especially on large panels.

3. Tools for Removing Air Bubbles and Wrinkles

  • Edge Seal Tape: Secures the film on high-stress edges like doors and wheel wells to prevent peeling or lifting.
  • Air Release Tool: For tiny air bubbles that can’t be smoothed out, use an air release tool to prick the bubble and press it flat.

4. Application Helpers for Curved Surfaces

  • Wrap Magnets: Help hold the film in place, making it easier to apply large sections without needing extra hands.
  • Contouring Tape (Knifeless Tape): Allows precise cuts without a blade, useful for working around curves and edges.

5. Post-Installation Tools

  • Finishing Spray or Detailer: Maintains the film’s glossy appearance and adds protection from dust and scratches. Choose a PPF-safe product.
